The first modern real-time embedded system goes way back to the 1960s. It was the Apollo Guidance Computer which was developed by the efforts of Dr. Charles Stark Draper and his team at MIT for the Apollo Program. This system was specifically designed to collect data automatically and provide critical calculations for the Lunar module and the Apollo Command Module.Since then many developments have been made in this technology and today this microcontroller-based embedded system has already entered into every aspect of consumers’ daily lives ranging from cellphones to credit card readers, thermostats, traffic lights, and the list is never-ending.
